SANTIAGO, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Chilean Health Minister Enrique Paris reported on Wednesday that 13 of the country's regions had seen a decline in COVID-19 cases in the last seven days, adding that 10 regions had seen a drop in the last 14 days.
In its daily report, the Ministry of Health recorded 4,416 new COVID-19 cases and 53 more deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 1,184,271 cases and 26,073 deaths.
On Thursday, 10 communes in the Santiago Metropolitan Region will come out of quarantine, after more than a month of lockdown.
The ministry announced on Monday that the South American country's border closure, which began on April 5, will be renewed through May.
Although Chile experienced a peak in infections in March and April, the government in the last few days has reported a drop in cases and has started gradually lifting restrictions.
However, a curfew remains in effect throughout the country, while restrictions continue on the capacity of commercial establishments and gatherings. Enditem
