TRIPOLI, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Special envoy of the United Nations (UN) secretary-general for Libya Jan Kubis on Wednesday discussed with senior Libyan officials the implementation of the Libyan ceasefire agreement and the upcoming national elections during meetings.

The meetings were held "to advance the implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement and the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) Roadmap leading up to the holding of national elections" scheduled for Dec. 24, said the UN Support Mission in Libya in a statement.

Kubis, also head of the UN mission, held talks with Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah on the recently-adopted UN Security Council resolutions and ways to implement them as well as the progress in Libya's political process and the preparations for the national elections.

The Libyan Government of National Unity was recently formed to end the Libyan political division after the UN-led LPDF selected a presidency council and a prime minister in February. The new executive authority's main task is to prepare for the general elections, as agreed by the LPDF. Enditem
