DAR ES SALAAM, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania's ruling party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) on Friday endorsed President Samia Suluhu Hassan as the party's chairperson, replacing former President John Magufuli who died in March.
At an extraordinary congress of the CCM, Job Ndugai, the chairman of the election committee, also Speaker of the National Assembly, announced the election results saying President Hassan scooped a 100 percent landslide victory, making her the country's first female chairperson of the ruling party.
In her acceptance speech, President Hassan pledged to work hard in fulfilling the party's undertakings, including the implementation of the party's election manifesto for 2020-2025.
Meanwhile, CCM's National Executive Committee also endorsed Daniel Chongolo as the party's new secretary-general.
Before his new role in the ruling party, Chongolo was Kinondoni district commissioner in Dar es Salaam region. Enditem
