BEIJING, May 1 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan on Saturday announced significant reducing of inbound international air travel on May 5-20, saying inbound air traffic will operate at 20 percent of the total current capacity.

The decision was taken "amid high disease prevalence in various parts of the world and current disease situation in the country with corresponding extreme stress on the critical care system," according to an advisory issued by the National Command and Operation Center.

KATHMANDU -- The Nepali government on Saturday reported a record high spike in COVID-19 cases with a second wave of the coronavirus hitting the Himalayan country hard.

"A total of 5,763 COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours," Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population said Saturday. The last record of highest coronavirus cases in a day was reported on Oct. 21 last year, when the Nepali government reported 5,743 cases.

NEW DELHI -- Twelve people, including a doctor, died at a private hospital in the Indian capital of New Delhi on Saturday after the facility ran out of medical oxygen, officials said.

The patients including the doctor were COVID-19 patients admitted at Delhi's Batra Hospital.

TEHRAN -- Iran on Saturday reported 17,080 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country's total infections to 2,516,157.

The pandemic has so far claimed 72,090 lives in Iran, up by 332 in the past 24 hours, said Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman of the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, during her daily briefing on the state of pandemic in the country.

MOSCOW -- Russia confirmed 9,270 new COVID-19 infections over the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 4,814,558, the official monitoring and response center said Saturday.

The national COVID-19 death toll rose by 392 to 110,520 in the past day, while the number of recoveries grew by 8,637 to 4,436,583.

NICOSIA -- Cyprus has received 436,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines as its 14-day cumulative number of cases per 100,000 persons hit a record high of 1,145.6 on Friday.

The batch delivered in Cyprus on Monday consists of the four vaccines that the European Union has authorized for emergeney use, the state-run Cyprus News Agency reported, citing a document from the bloc's Committee of Permanent Representatives.

MANILA -- The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported Saturday 9,226 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 1,046,653.

The death toll climbed to 17,354 after 120 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said.
