PHNOM PENH, May 2 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from COVID-19 has surged to 103 in Cambodia on Sunday after seven new fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said in a statement.

The latest deceased patients included three in the capital Phnom Penh, two in Kandal province and one each in Preah Sihanouk and Kampong Cham province.

The country also confirmed 730 new cases, raising the national case tally to 14,520, the statement said, adding that the new infections included two imported cases and 728 local cases, including 454 in Phnom Penh, 124 in Preah Sihanouk and 107 in Kandal.

Meanwhile, 169 patients were recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 5,369, it added.

MoH's secretary of state and spokeswoman Or Vandine urged people, especially those in high-risk areas, to get vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccines, saying that vaccines, along with preventive measures, would save lives from the virus.

"We must adapt to the new normal and be always careful. Please do not leave home if unnecessary," she said.

The country launched an anti-COVID-19 inoculation drive on Feb 10. So far, some 1.34 million out of the country's 16 million population had been vaccinated against the virus, showed a government report. Enditem
