JERUSALEM, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Most doctors in Israel will go on strike for 24 hours next week, the Israeli Medical Association (IMA) said Monday evening.

The IMA did not specify the date for the strike, but the Israeli media estimated it would take place next Monday.

The doctors are protesting against the intention of the Israeli Ministry of Finance to stop funding 600 doctor positions added in hospitals during the coronavirus period to strengthen the Israeli health system.

They demand that the 600 positions be made permanent, by accepting new doctors to work in place of those who have retired.

The Israeli doctors warned, in a letter sent to the health and finance ministers, "Israel should not be caught complacent as if the coronavirus crisis has passed. The pandemic is still present and the fear of the variants is greater and more significant than ever." Enditem
