S.Korea's consumer price rises 2.3 pct in April

SEOUL, May 4 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's consumer price rose 2.3 percent in April from a year earlier, recording the highest increase in 44 months since August 2017, statistical office data showed Tuesday.

The consumer price inflation accelerated this year from 0.6 percent in January to 1.1 percent in February and 1.5 percent in March amid a higher price for farm goods and oil products, according to Statistics Korea.

Price for agricultural, livestock and fishery products surged 13.1 percent in April on a yearly basis.

Industrial products price, including oil products, gained 2.3 percent last month. Oil product price spiked 13.4 percent, marking the highest since March 2017.

Price for electricity, tap water and natural gas declined 4.9 percent in April from a year earlier.

Services price increased 1.3 percent in the month. Private services price advanced 2.2 percent, but public services price fell 1.0 percent.

Core consumer price, which excludes volatile agricultural and oil products, went up 1.4 percent in April from a year ago. Enditem
