RAMALLAH, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Tight precautionary measures to contain the COVID-19 in the Gaza Strip were eased on Tuesday night following a significant decline in infections, said an official of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
"The night lockdown all over the Gaza Strip was completely lifted starting Tuesday night," said Eyad al-Bozzom, spokesman of the Hamas-run Interior Ministry in the Gaza Strip, adding that pedestrians will be allowed in the streets, and shops and establishments will remain open.
However, al-Bozzom said all traffic in the Gaza Strip will stop at midnight during the last 10 days of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan to enable the residents to prepare for the Eid al-Fitr holiday expected on May 13.
All mosques will reopen during the coming 10 days for prayers, including the evening prayers, but wedding halls will be closed and indoor gatherings will be banned, he added.
On Tuesday, the health authorities in the Gaza Strip announced 458 new COVID-19 infections and seven deaths during the past 24 hours. A total of 102,532 cases have been recorded so far in the besieged enclave. Enditem
