Live COVID-19 updates: Turkey reports 28,997 new cases

BEIJING, May 5 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

TUNIS -- Tunisian Health Ministry reported 1,405 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, raising the caseload in the country to 314,152.

The death toll from the virus rose by 101 to 11,016 in Tunisia, the ministry said in a statement.

SANTIAGO -- Chile's Health Ministry reported on Tuesday 3,198 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours, the lowest figure since March 3, when it was 3,053.

This brought the caseload to 1,219,064 infections, the ministry reported, adding that there were also 37 more deaths in the same period, for a total of 26,696.

ANKARA -- Turkey on Tuesday confirmed 28,997 new COVID-19 cases, including 2,483 symptomatic patients, raising the total number of cases in the country to 4,929,118, according to its health ministry.

The death toll from the virus in Turkey rose by 336 to 41,527, while the total recoveries climbed to 4,554,037 after 38,218 more people recovered in the last 24 hours.

JERUSALEM -- Israel's Ministry of Health reported 67 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, raising the total number of cases in the country to 838,688.

The death toll from the virus increased by two to 6,369, while the number of patients in serious condition decreased from 97 to 93, out of 162 hospitalized patients.

RABAT -- Morocco's COVID-19 tally rose to 512,285 on Tuesday as 373 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours.

The death toll rose to 9,038 with six new fatalities during the last 24 hours, while 303 people are in intensive care units, according to a statement by the Ministry of Health.

BEIRUT -- Lebanon registered on Tuesday 748 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infections to 529,205, the Health Ministry reported.

Meanwhile, death toll from the virus increased by 23 to 7,368. Enditem
