Live COVID-19 updates: Brazil's COVID-19 death toll tops 410,000

BEIJING, May 5 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil on Tuesday reported 2,966 new deaths from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the nationwide death toll to 411,588, according to its health ministry.

Meanwhile, 77,359 new COVID-19 cases were detected, bringing the accumulated caseload to 14,856,888.

Brazil now has the world's second-highest COVID-19 death toll, after the United States, and the third-largest outbreak, behind the United States and India.

CANBERRA -- Almost two thirds of Australians think the country's COVID-19 vaccine rollout is not going well, a survey has found.

Researchers from Australian National University (ANU) on Wednesday published the latest report from an ongoing survey of more than 3,000 adults' attitudes towards the pandemic and vaccine rollout.

It found that only 3.7 percent of respondents thought the vaccine program was going "very well" compared to 64 percent who said it was going either "not too well" or "not well at all."

BEIJING -- The Chinese mainland on Tuesday reported seven new COVID-19 cases, all of which were imported, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Wednesday.

Of the cases, two were reported in Sichuan, and one each in Tianjin, Inner Mongolia, Shandong, Guangdong and Guangxi.

Six new suspected cases arriving from outside the mainland were reported in Shanghai, but no new deaths related to COVID-19 were reported Tuesday, the commission said.

BUENOS AIRES -- Argentina on Tuesday reported 412 more deaths from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, raising the pandemic death toll to 65,202.

Meanwhile, 26,238 new infections were reported over the same period, bringing the national count to 3,047,417, the country's health ministry said.

The South American country has administered 8,327,751 doses of COVID-19 vaccines since the start of its vaccination campaign on Dec. 29, 2020.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand reported three new cases of COVID-19 in managed isolation and no new cases in the community on Wednesday.

The three newly imported cases came from the United Arab Emirates, and have remained in managed isolation and quarantine facilities in Auckland, according to the Ministry of Health.

There are also three historical cases to report in recent returnees in managed isolation facilities, which came from Jordan, the Philippines and Indonesia. These cases are classified as historical and are not considered to be infectious, said a ministry statement.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 676 more cases of COVID-19 as of midnight Tuesday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 124,945.

The daily caseload was up from 541 in the previous day, rising above 600 in three days.

The daily number of infections hovered in triple figures since Nov. 8 last year due to small cluster infections in Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province as well as imported cases.

TUNIS -- Tunisian Health Ministry reported 1,405 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, raising the caseload in the country to 314,152.

The death toll from the virus rose by 101 to 11,016 in Tunisia, the ministry said in a statement. Enditem
