German shares gain 0.76 percent at start of trading

BERLIN, May 5 (Xinhua) -- German stocks were off to a good start on Wednesday, with the benchmark DAX index up by 113.15 points, or 0.76 percent, to open at 14,969.63 points.

The biggest winner among Germany's 30 largest listed companies at the start of trading was Deutsche Bank, gaining 2.88 percent, followed by chipmaker Infineon, advancing 2.05 percent.

Pharmaceutical company Merck was up by 1.87 percent after announcing on Wednesday after trading that net sales in a "very strong" first quarter (Q1) grew by 6 percent to 4.63 billion euros (5.55 billion U.S. dollars).

Shares of Delivery Hero fell by 4.14 percent. The German online food delivery company was the biggest loser at the start of trading on Wednesday.

The yield on German ten-year bonds increased 0.0105 percentage points to minus 0.2265 percent and the euro was trading almost unchanged at 1.2013 U.S. dollars, decreasing by 0.01 percent on Wednesday morning. Enditem
