HANOI, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam earned over 9.5 billion U.S. dollars from exporting textile and garment in the first four months of this year, up 9 percent against the same period last year, according to the country's Ministry of Industry and Trade on Thursday.
In April alone, Vietnam's textile and garment exports rose 42.2 percent year on year to around 2.3 billion U.S. dollars.
Over the four-month period, the sector posted positive results as the demand in key markets gradually recovered, coupled with positive impacts of the free trade agreements that Vietnam joined, the ministry said.
Many exporting items such as clothes and fabric made from natural fibers have regained the growth momentum they had before the COVID-19 pandemic, local media cited the ministry as reporting.
In 2020, Vietnam recorded an export turnover of roughly 29.5 billion U.S. dollars from textile and garment products, down 10.2 percent from 2019, according to the country's General Statistic Office. Its largest export markets included China, Japan, the European Union, South Korea and the United States. Enditem
