PHNOM PENH, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia reported a daily record of 558 COVID-19 cases, raising the national case tally to 18,179, the Ministry of Health said in a statement on Friday.

The new infections included 557 local cases and one imported case, the statement said.

The kingdom also saw another 41 patients recovered, taking the total number of recoveries to 6,884, the statement said, adding that the death toll remained at 114 as no new fatalities were reported.

Cambodia has been enduring the third wave of COVID-19 community transmission since Feb. 20. In a bid to flatten the infection curve, the country has closed down all schools, sports facilities, museums, cinemas, and entertainment venues nationwide and has imposed lockdown in areas which are deemed to have a high risk of infections.

The Southeast Asian nation launched an anti-COVID-19 inoculation drive on Feb 10. So far, some 1.6 million out of the kingdom's 16-million population had been vaccinated against the virus, the Ministry of Health said. Enditem
