SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Two paramilitary troopers, a policeman and a civilian were wounded on Friday after militants carried out a grenade attack in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The grenade was hurled towards government forces in Nawab Bazaar area of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Police said the grenade exploded with a bang, leaving the four wounded.

"Today militants hurled a grenade towards paramilitary troopers, which exploded with a bang wounding two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, a policeman and a civilian," a police official said. "The wounded persons were immediately removed to hospital for treatment."

Soon after the attack, additional police and paramilitary contingents rushed to the spot and launched a manhunt to nab the attackers.

Militants occasionally target police and paramilitary troopers in the region, which witnesses gunfights intermittently.

On Thursday three militants were killed in a gun battle with government forces in the region's Shopian district.

A guerrilla war is going on between militants and Indian troopers stationed in the region since 1989.

Kashmir, the Himalayan region divided between India and Pakistan, is claimed by both in full. Since their independence from Britain, the two countries have fought three wars, two exclusively over Kashmir. Enditem
