SANTIAGO, May 12 (Xinhua) -- Chile's Health Ministry reported on Wednesday 3,920 new COVID-19 infections and 28 more deaths in one day, for a cumulative total of 1,260,448 cases and 27,384 deaths.
In a statement, the ministry noted that 10 of the country's 16 regions have seen a decline in infections in the last seven days.
The southern region of Magallanes had the highest incidence rate in the country per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Atacama, Maule and Aysen.
Meanwhile, the regions with the greatest increase in new cases in the last seven days were Aysen, Los Lagos, Arica and Parinacota, and Coquimbo.
Chile faced the peak of the pandemic in April, with more than 9,000 new COVID-19 cases in one day, which led to the quarantine of more than 80 percent of the population.
Currently, the government has confirmed a slight decrease in the number of infections.
However, experts have called for caution due to the resumption of commercial activities and school classes in certain municipalities where quarantines have been lifted. Enditem
