LIMA -- Some 30.1 percent of Peruvians suffered from monetary poverty in 2020 due to the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported on Friday.

"It is important to note that the increase in poverty is associated with the paralysis of most economic activities due to the state of national emergency and mandatory social isolation," the INEI stressed in its report. (Peru-Poverty rate)

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday signed an executive order revoking several measures issued by former President Donald Trump, including one to establish a "National Garden of American Heroes" that called for erecting statues of hundreds of prominent Americans though some of them are controversial over their racial records.

The order also revoked Trump's another action which prioritized punishment for those caught vandalizing statues or monuments. (US-Politics)

UNITED NATIONS -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday called for a unified Security Council over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and regretted the lack of multilateralism.

Asked what the secretary-general expects from Sunday's emergency meeting of the Security Council on the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian escalation, Guterres' spokesman Stephane Dujarric said: "What we would like to see is ... a strong, unified voice for de-escalation, for a cessation of hostilities and a push to get the parties back on track to find a political solution to this conflict that has been going on and on and on." BAMAKO -- The prime minister of Mali, Moctar Ouane, has been reappointed as prime minister by the transitional president after submitting his resignation, the Malian presidency announced on Friday.

Upon the prime minister's resignation, transitional president Bah N'Daw "repealed the decrees" respectively appointing the prime minister and the members of the government. (Mali-PM-Transition)

CAIRO -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi discussed on Friday the deteriorating conflict in the Palestinian territories, Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.
