BAGHDAD, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Thousands of Iraqi protesters rallied on Saturday in Iraqi capital Baghdad to protest the Israeli attacks against the Palestinians in Gaza Strip.
The angry protesters gathered in the afternoon in Tahrir Square, the epicenter of the protests in Iraq. Many of them waved Iraqi and Palestinian flags and chanted slogans in support of the Palestinian people.
An Interior Ministry source told the official Iraqi News Agency that the security forces tightened measures and blocked all the roads leading to Tahrir Square to protect the demonstrators.
Such pro-Palestinian demonstrations also took place in the provinces of Basra, Dhi Qar, Qadisiyah, Wasit and Babil.
The protests came in response to a call by the Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr who urged all Iraqis to participate in the protests in Baghdad and other Iraqi provinces to show solidarity with the Palestinian people. Enditem
