KABUL -- Two soldiers and 17 Taliban militants were killed when overnight clashes flared up in two Afghan provinces, authorities said on Wednesday.

In northern Kunduz province, Taliban militants attacked an Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) patrol in Chahar Dara district, triggering a clash lasting for a while, district chief Mohmeen Omarkhel told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Clashes)

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally reached 25,496,330 on Wednesday, with 267,334 new cases registered in the past 24 hours, confirmed the health ministry.

The death toll rose to 283,248 with 4,529 more deaths, the highest in 24 hours so far, recorded since Tuesday morning.

There are still 3,226,719 active cases in the country, as there was a decrease of 127,046 cases in the past 24 hours. The number of daily active cases has been on the decline over the past few days, after a continuous surge since mid-April. (India-COVID-19 cases)

KATHMANDU -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 hit the Lamjung district in northern-central Nepal on Wednesday, leaving at least three people injured, a local official said.

With the epicenter in Bhulbhule of the Marsyangdi Rural Municipality, the tremor that struck at 5:42 local time was felt in different parts of the country including in the capital Kathmandu, according to the national earthquake center. (Nepal-Earthquake)

HANOI -- Vietnam reported 31 new COVID-19 cases from 6 p.m. local time Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday, including 30 locally transmitted and one imported, raising the total confirmed cases in the country to 4,543, according to the Ministry of Health.

Among the community cases, 16 were detected in the northern Bac Ninh province, 10 in the northern Bac Giang province, three in the northern Lang Son province and one in the southern Ho Chi Minh City. (Vietnam-COVID-19 cases) Enditem
