BEIJING, May 22 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally rose to 26,289,290 with 257,299 new cases registered in the past 24 hours, said the federal Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday.

A total of 4,194 deaths were recorded since Friday morning, taking the death toll to 295,525. The single-day deaths have once again peaked beyond the 4,000-mark for the past two days after declining to 3,874 on Thursday.

BEIJING -- China stands ready to continue supporting Bangladesh in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Friday in a phone conversation with Bangladeshi Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen.

Wang said that in March this year, Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a video speech to an event held by Bangladesh in commemoration of the centenary of its founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's birth, also in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the country's independence, which injected strong impetus into the development of China-Bangladesh relations.

ADDIS ABABA -- Ethiopia registered 485 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 268,520 as of Friday evening, according to the country's Ministry of Health.

The ministry reported 12 new deaths, bringing the death toll to 4,060, along with 1,487 more recoveries, taking its total number of recoveries to 225,480.

HANOI -- Vietnam reported 20 new COVID-19 cases from 6:00 p.m. local time Friday to 6:00 a.m. Saturday, raising the total confirmed cases in the country to 4,961, according to its Ministry of Health.

The new cases are all community infections detected in northern localities, including 11 in the epidemic hotspot Bac Giang province, four in Hai Duong province, and three Bac Ninh province, among others.

HARARE -- Zimbabwe on Friday launched a nationwide campaign to introduce the typhoid conjugate vaccine into routine childhood immunization as part of a broader strategy to eliminate epidemic-prone diseases.

The campaign will run from May 24 to June 4 this year and will target over 6 million children aged nine months to below 15 years, said Vice President and Health Minister Constantino Chiwenga while launching the campaign in Harare.

WASHINGTON -- Former U.S. President Donald Trump has been sued by a civil rights group for calling COVID-19 the "China virus."

The complaint, filed in a federal court in New York by the Chinese Americans Civil Rights Coalition (CACRC), alleged that Trump's use of that phrase and other similar racist slurs is baseless, since the origin of the coronavirus is not yet determined, and that the former president's conduct harmed the Chinese American community.

BUENOS AIRES -- The Argentine Football Association (AFA) on Friday suspended all leagues under its jurisdiction for nine days because of a new wave of coronavirus cases.

The decision affects men's and women's competitions but will not impact Copa Libertadores games scheduled for next week, the AFA said.

SANTIAGO -- Chile registered more than 7,000 new daily cases of COVID-19 for the second day in a row on Friday, after tests detected 7,614 infections in 24 hours, Health Minister Enrique Paris said.

According to the Health Ministry's daily pandemic report, the new cases brought the country's confirmed caseload to 1,315,913 since the onset of the outbreak here in March 2020. Enditem
