NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 death toll crossed the 300,000-mark, reaching 303,720 on Monday, confirmed the federal health ministry.

The first 100,000 COVID-19 deaths took place in the country in nearly nine months, while it rose to 200,000 in almost seven months, but the last 100,000 deaths were added in just 26 days as the daily deaths peaked at over 4,000 amid the ongoing deadly second wave. SUVA -- Samoa's ruling Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP) leader and caretaker Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi said on Monday that they are following the rule of law.

According to local media reports, Tuilaepa, speaking at a press conference, said that his caretaker government is in place, Samoa is peaceful and they will follow the rule of law.

"There remains to be only one recognizable government even if it is a custodian government. The public responds to one prime minister and ministers and that is with this government," Tuilaepa said. (Samoa-Politics)

MANILA -- The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported on Monday 4,973 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 1,184,706.

The death toll climbed to 19,983 after 39 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said. The Philippines, which has more than 110 million population, has tested over 12 million people since the outbreak in January 2020. (Philippines-COVID-19 cases)

TOKYO -- Japan on Monday opened large-scale vaccination centers in Tokyo and Osaka with the state-backed facilities aimed at speeding up the country's sluggish COVID-19 vaccination rollout.

With just two month to go until Tokyo is scheduled to host the summer Olympics and with the country's vaccination campaign the slowest among OECD countries, the government has enlisted Self-Defense Forces (SDF)' doctors and nurses to operate the facilities for three months.
