CAPE TOWN, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Members of South Africa's parliament have expressed hope for the cooperation between South Africa and China to be strengthened across various sectors including rural development and trade.

Cedric Thomas Frolick, house chairperson for committees of the National Assembly, said the two countries have sustained their long-term relationship "on the basis of mutual respect, understanding and also support for development initiatives for both our countries."

He added that the Chinese leadership takes not only the development of South Africa, but also the overall development of Africa seriously.

Frolick made the remarks during an online discussion themed the Role of the State and Party in Addressing Development on Thursday co-hosted by his office and the Consulate-General of China in Cape Town.

South African parliament members have maintained various forms of exchanges with their Chinese partners, said Frolick. "We look forward to constructive discussion so that they can further supplement our ties between our two countries," he said.

Mary-Ann Lindelwa Dunjwa, chairperson of Portfolio Committee on Employment and Labor, said there are lessons South African can draw from China in rural development and industrialization.

Chairperson of Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry Duma Moses Nkosi expected that South Africa and its largest trade partner can jointly deepen their trade relationship.

Chinese companies are investing in various sectors of South Africa, which benefits both sides, and the two countries should expand such cooperation, Nkosi added.

Chinese Consul-General in Cape Town Lin Jing said China is willing to deepen party-to-party cooperation between the two countries, and that both countries should learn from each other's experiences in state and party governance. Enditem
