PARIS -- A policewoman was seriously injured in a knife attack on Friday morning in a town in western France, reported local media.

The attacker entered the commune police station of La Chapelle-sur-Erdre in Loire-Atlantique at around 10 a.m. local time (0800 GMT) and stabbed the policewoman several times before running away, reported BFM television. (France-Police-Stabbing)

MOSCOW -- Russia confirmed 9,252 new COVID-19 infections over the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 5,044,459, the official monitoring and response center said Friday.

LAGOS -- At least 14 people held by gunmen were recently rescued by Nigerian police in an operation in a suburb of the capital Abuja, a police spokesperson said Thursday.
