Live COVID-19 updates: S. Korea reports 744 more cases, 143,596 in total

BEIJING, June 5 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 744 more cases of COVID-19 as of midnight Friday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 143,596.

The daily caseload was up from 695 the prior day, marking the highest in 22 days since May 14. The daily average caseload for the past week was 595.

BOGOTA -- Colombia reported a record daily count of 30,000 COVID-19 cases, raising the national caseload to 3,518,046, its health ministry said on Friday.

Meanwhile, 537 more deaths were reported, bringing the national death toll to 90,890, according to the ministry.

SAO PAULO -- Brazil registered 1,454 more deaths from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the nationwide tally to 470,842, the health ministry said on Friday.

A total of 37,936 new infections were detected, raising the caseload to 16,841,408, the ministry said.

BEIJING -- The Chinese mainland on Friday reported 11 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, which were all in Guangdong Province, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Saturday.

The same day also saw 13 new imported cases on the mainland. Of them, five were reported in Guangdong, three in Fujian, two in Beijing, and one each in Shanghai, Sichuan and Yunnan.

BUENOS AIRES -- Argentina reported 30,950 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the national tally to 3,915,397, the Ministry of Health said Friday.

The ministry said 539 more deaths were logged, bringing the national death toll to 80,411.

ADDIS ABABA -- Ethiopia registered 347 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 272,632 as of Friday, said the Ministry of Health.

The ministry said eight new deaths were reported, bringing the national death toll to 4,193. Enditem
