BEIJING, June 7 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 485 more cases of COVID-19 as of midnight Sunday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 144,637.

The daily caseload was down from 556 in the prior day, falling below 500 in six days due to fewer virus tests over the weekend. The daily average caseload for the past week was 614.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil on Sunday registered another 873 deaths from COVID-19, bringing the death toll to 473,404, Brazil's Ministry of Health reported.

It also reported a total of 39,637 new cases on Sunday, bring the total number of confirmed cases to 16,947,062.

In the last seven days, Brazil registered a daily average of 1,639 deaths from COVID-19 and 61,706 cases.

MACAO -- The Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Monday ordered nucleic acid tests for those who have traveled to Guangzhou or Foshan, two cities in the neighboring Guangdong province that have recently reported COVID-19 cases, within 14 days.

These people have to take the tests before 6 p.m. Monday at designated testing stations at three major local hospitals, the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Center of Macao said early in the day.

If not completing the tests in time, they would be required to undergo 14 days of medical observation at places designated by the health authority, according to the center.

CANBERRA -- Australia's Health Minister Greg Hunt has announced extra coronavirus vaccines for the state of Victoria amid its ongoing lockdown.

The second-most populous state, also the hardest-hit state by the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, recently has registered around 80 cases linked to the current outbreak.

Hunt on Sunday afternoon said an extra 230,000 doses of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine and 100,000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will be directed to Victoria over the coming weeks.

SEOUL -- South Korea on Monday began administering COVID-19 vaccines to soldiers under 30 in a bid to form herd immunity in the military, according to the defense ministry.

Out of about 414,000 service members and civilian personnel in the military under the age of 30, some 358,000, or 86.5 percent of the total, applied for the vaccination, the Ministry of National Defense said in a statement.

SUVA -- Fiji's Ministry of Health has confirmed 83 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday.

Fiji's Permanent Secretary for Health James Fong said the majority of these cases are from known clusters or areas already under containment or lockdown protocols around the capital Suva.

Fong said the cluster of greatest concern is at the Colonial War Memorial (CWM) Hospital where medical teams are going to great lengths to provide critical treatment without exposing themselves and their patients to the virus.

BUENOS AIRES -- Argentina reported 23,627 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the national tally to 3,939,024, the Ministry of Health said Saturday.

Meanwhile, 456 more deaths were logged, raising the national death toll to 80,867, the ministry said. Enditem
