Pakistan reports 1,490 new COVID-19 cases

ISLAMABAD, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan confirmed 1,490 new positive COVID-19 cases on Sunday with a 3.02-percent positivity rate, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) said on Monday.

The NCOC said in a statement that the country's number of overall cases rose to 933,630, which include 864,931 recoveries since February of last year when the first case of its kind was reported in Pakistan.

There is a total of 47,376 active cases who are under treatment across the country.

According to the NCOC, the pandemic killed 58 people during the last 24 hours, increasing the overall death toll to 21,323.

Pakistan's eastern Punjab province is the worst hit region in both the number of infections and deaths, where 342,498 people got infected and 10,314 died of the pandemic, followed by southern Sindh province which reported 323,828 infections and 5,136 deaths.

Sindh province has started easing COVID-19 restrictions on Monday by relaxing business hours and opening educational institutions. Enditem
