KABUL, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of households have benefited from drinking water after the completion of a water-supply project in Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province, the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) announced on Thursday.
Financially supported by Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF) and implemented by MRRD, the project's completion helped 1,250 families access drinking water and use hygiene kits in Bati Kot and Khogiani districts of Nangarhar, the ministry said in a statement.
"The project included excavation of 35 water wells, activation and rehabilitation of 65 other water wells as well as construction of 35 toilets in Bati Kot and Khogiani districts," said the statement.
In addition, over 2,500 people have been trained healthcare tips with more than 1,250 women receiving hygiene kits to avoid and prevent outbreak of different diseases in the two districts, the statement said.
A couple of months ago, the ministry completed and launched a water canal project creating 1,310 workdays and providing drinking water for tens of households in neighboring Wardak province. Enditem
