Libyan, EU officials discuss support for Libyan government

TRIPOLI, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Libyan Minister of Justice Halima Abdul-Rahman met with European Union (EU) officials here on Wednesday and the two sides discussed European support for the Libyan government.

During the meeting, head of EU civilian missions Francisco Esteban Perez and EU Ambassador to Libya Jose Sabadell expressed their satisfaction with the cooperation between the Libyan ministry and the EU, especially with the European Union Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM), said a statement by the Ministry of Justice.

They stressed the EU commitment to strengthening the partnership with Libya, especially in such fields as criminal justice, the statement added.

Abdul-Rahman praised the cooperation between EUBAM and the ministry, stressing the ministry's keenness on promoting the rule of law, respecting human rights, and fighting impunity.

She confirmed that the ministry is making great efforts to guarantee the success of the upcoming elections later this year through cooperation with the National Elections Commission.

Abdul-Rahman pointed out that the ministry pays great attention to national reconciliation, confirming that the ministry made great efforts to release those forcibly detained and improve the conditions inside detention centers for illegal immigrants.

She also confirmed that the ministry pays attention to empowering women within official institutions, and that the ministry has a women's support and empowerment unit for this purpose. Enditem
