BOGOTA -- The bodies of seven miners were found on Saturday after an explosion in a coal mine in the Colombian department of Boyaca, bringing the death toll to nine, local authorities reported.

JERUSALEM -- A 28-year-old Palestinian woman was shot dead on Saturday by an Israeli security guard at the Qalandiya checkpoint in the West Bank, the Israeli police said.

The woman, a resident of the Palestinian refugee camp Aqabat Jaber near the city of Jericho, approached the cars crossing at the checkpoint manned by Israeli border police and civilian security guards, and ran toward them holding a knife in her hand, according to the police. ALGIERS -- Algeria held on Saturday its parliamentary elections, with a turnout of only 14.47 percent by 4 p.m local time (1500 GMT) as the polling stations closed at 8 p.m.

LIMA -- Peru began a vaccination campaign on Saturday against the COVID-19 pandemic that focuses on pregnant women over 18 years of age, Health Minister Oscar Ugarte announced.
