BEIJING, June 13 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

OTTAWA -- Canada reported 1,115 new cases of COVID-19 Saturday, bringing the cumulative total to 1,400,827, including 25,910 deaths, according to the CTV.

With the considerable decline in infection rates nationally, the overall number of people experiencing severe and critical illness is also steadily declining.

RAMALLAH -- Palestinian Minister of Health Mai al-Kaila announced on Saturday that Palestine has recently witnessed a collective recovery from COVID-19.

"The West Bank and the Gaza Strip witnessed a decline in the (daily) positive cases and fatalities," al-Kaila told state radio Voice of Palestine.

LIMA -- Peru began a vaccination campaign on Saturday against the COVID-19 pandemic that focuses on pregnant women over 18 years of age, Health Minister Oscar Ugarte announced.

"Today we are starting with pregnant women and that will be a very important protection for all future mothers," the minister said during the start of the campaign in Lima.

YANGON -- About 88 percent of basic education schools have reopened in Myanmar's regions and states since June 1, spokesperson of the State Administration Council told a press conference on Saturday.

As many as 42,080 out of over 47,000 schools in the country reopened and over 3.2 million students attended the schools as of June 10, Major General Zaw Min Tun said.

NEW DELHI -- The recovery rate of COVID-19 patients in India Saturday increased to 95.07 percent, the country's federal health ministry said.

"Till now 27,911,384 patients have been cured," the ministry said. "The national recovery rate is now 95.07 percent."

ADDIS ABABA -- Confirmed COVID-19 cases in Africa reached 5,011,502 as of Saturday noon, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said in an update.

The Africa CDC, the specialized healthcare agency of the 55-member African Union, said the death toll from the pandemic stands at 134,239 while 4,504,296 patients across the continent have recovered from the disease.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally rose to 29,359,155 on Saturday, with 84,332 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours, said the federal health ministry.
