Vietnam reports 297 new COVID-19 cases, 10,538 in total

HANOI, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam reported 297 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, including 293 locally transmitted and four imported, bringing the total tally to 10,538.

The Ministry of Health said that among the community cases, 254 were reported in quarantine facilities or lockdown areas. In terms of localities, 129 were detected in the northern epidemic hotspot Bac Giang province, 95 in the southern Ho Chi Minh City, and 54 in the northern Bac Ninh province.

Most of them are contacts of previously confirmed cases or linked to the clusters of infections in the localities.

Nationwide, as many as 3,998 COVID-19 patients have recovered from the coronavirus epidemic, up by 171 from Saturday, and nearly 192,400 people are being quarantined and monitored.

The ministry also said Sunday that a 76-year-old COVID-19 patient became the latest death recorded from the pandemic, taking the total death toll to 59.

As of Sunday, Vietnam has registered a total of 8,902 domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases, including 7,332 detected since the start of the latest outbreak in late April, according to the health ministry. Enditem
