OTTAWA, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Canada's manufacturing sales fell 2.1 percent to 57.1 billion Canadian dollars in April due to lower sales in 11 of 21 industries amid the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Statistics Canada on Monday.
Much of the fall was attributable to lower sales of transportation equipment and petroleum and coal products.
The machinery industry posted the largest sales gain, followed by the wood product and chemical industries.
Manufacturing sales excluding the transportation equipment industry rose 1.5 percent in April, the 12th consecutive monthly gain.
The industrial product price index increased 1.6 percent in April, while prices of raw materials were up 1 percent.
Higher prices for lumber and other wood products, meat, fish and dairy products, primary ferrous metal products, and chemicals and chemical products contributed the most to the industrial product price increase in April. Enditem
