Namibia's speaker of parliament tests positive for COVID-19

WINDHOEK, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's Speaker of the National Assembly Peter Katjavivi tested positive for COVID-19 Monday evening, said authorities.

The speaker is in good spirits and is under self-isolation, David Nahogandja, the parliament's spokesperson, announced Tuesday.

"The National Assembly wishes the speaker a speedy recovery," he added.

Namibia has been experiencing a spike in COVID-19 infections and deaths and the country's President Hage Geingob is expected to address the nation on COVID-19 national response measures Tuesday.

Namibia has recorded a total of 65,815 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic started in the country. Enditem
