RIMINI, Italy, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Dutch player Nimir Abdel-Aziz set a men's Volleyball Nations League (VNL) scoring record here on Tuesday, scoring 42 points in a single match.

The 29-year-old opposite grabbed 42 points from 36 attacks, two blocks and four aces, leading his side to upset France 3-2 after having been two sets down.

The Netherlands, who only had a single victory before meeting France, ranked the second to last in the league table. France was in second place but now dropped to third.

"We are really happy that we could win this match. Every victory at the VNL is special for us," said Nimir.

France's Theo Faure scored a team high 30 points, the ninth highest in men's VNL history, from 23 attacks, three blocks and four aces.

"It was a great game. It's an unbelievable feeling to be the best scorer of my team tonight. I also didn't have too much time on the court before so it was great today to play and I felt really good," said Faure.

The previous men's VNL highest scoring record was 37 points set by China's Jiang Chuan in 2018, also against France.

After Tuesday's matches, Brazil still sit top of the rankings with nine wins and 26 points. Second place is now occupied by Poland with eight wins and 24 points, while Slovenia sit fourth, behind France, with seven wins and 20 points. Enditem
