KABUL, June 16 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan law enforcement agencies have arrested 16 suspected drug traffickers in different provinces recently, authorities announced Wednesday.

"Afghan Counter Narcotics Police of Afghanistan (CNPA) and detective security organizations have arrested 16 people on the suspicion of transportation of drugs and narcotics in Kabul, Laghman, Parwan, Kandahar, Takhar, Badakhshan and Nangarhar provinces over the past seven days," the Counter-Narcotics Criminal Justice Task Force of Afghanistan said in a statement.

The cases were sent to the Counter Narcotic Justice Center, a special Afghan court for jurisdiction of major drug cases, the statement added.

Twenty-six individuals have also been sentenced to different ranges of imprisonment in connection with 22 drug and crime related cases over the cited period, according to the statement. Enditem
