Live COVID-19 updates: India's tally crosses 30 million

BEIJING, June 23 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MANILA -- The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported 4,353 new COVID-19 infections Wednesday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 1,372,232.

The death toll climbed to 23,928 after 119 more patients died from the viral disease, said the DOH, adding six testing laboratories failed to submit reports.

DHAKA -- Bangladeshi Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has criticized the hoarding of COVID-19 vaccines by wealthy nations.

Even the rich nations are putting conditions for supplying vaccines to other countries, Momen told journalists at his ministry office in Dhaka on Tuesday after a weeklong visit to the United States.

ULAN BATOR -- Mongolia recorded 2,213 new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours, raising the nationwide tally to 100,263, the country's health ministry said Wednesday.

One of the latest confirmed cases was imported from the abroad, and the remaining ones were local infections.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally surpassed 30 million-mark and the death toll crossed 390,000 on Wednesday, said the federal health ministry.

While the tally rose to 30,028,709, the aggregate death toll reached 390,660.

SAO PAULO -- Brazil has recorded over 18 million COVID-19 cases, including 87,822 infections in the past 24 hours, for a total of 18,054,653 positive cases, the Ministry of Health reported Tuesday.

Meanwhile, 2,131 more deaths from COVID-19 were reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the national death toll to 504,717, said the ministry.

BOGOTA -- Colombia reported 614 new deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, raising the national death toll to 101,302, the country's health ministry said Tuesday.

The ministry said that 28,616 new infections were reported, bringing the national tally to 3,997,021.

BUENOS AIRES -- Argentina reported on Tuesday 792 more deaths from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day death tally to date, raising the national death toll to 90,281.

According to the Ministry of Health, 21,387 new COVID-19 infections were reported, bringing the country's total caseload to 4,298,782, and 3,928,389 people have recovered from the disease.

KAMPALA -- Uganda on Tuesday announced the closure of parliament for two weeks as a virulent second wave of COVID-19 continues to devastate the country.

The parliament will be closed for lawmakers with effect from June 28 to July 11 to allow the disinfection of the parliamentary buildings in the capital city of Kampala, said Jane Kibirige, clerk to parliament, in a statement. Enditem
