HARARE, June 24 (Xinhua) -- A Zimbabwean lawmaker on Thursday thanked the National People's Congress of China for organizing a two-day virtual seminar for African parliamentarians to share knowledge on poverty reduction and development.

On behalf of Zimbabwean parliamentarians, Justice Mayor Wadyajena, chairperson of the parliamentary committee on lands, agriculture, water, fisheries and rural resettlement, extended his gratitude to the Chinese organizers for coordinating the informative seminar this week.

The seminar was attended by legislators from Liberia, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

"On behalf of Zimbabwe's National Assembly, I would like to express my deepest appreciation to the National People's Congress of China for putting together this extremely illuminating webinar examining poverty reduction and development," Wadyajena said in a statement.

He said Zimbabwean parliamentarians learned a lot about the role that they play in overseeing national development strategies, particularly Vision 2030 which seeks to transform Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income country in the next 9 years.

Wadyajena said legislators will apply what they learned, and borrow from China's experience and expertise to help advance the role of Zimbabwe's parliament in promoting national development and prosperity. Enditem
