Navas absent from Costa Rica squad for Gold Cup

SAN JOSE, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas has been left out of Costa Rica's squad for the CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football) Gold Cup after failing to recover in time from a shoulder injury.

In his place, Costa Rica manager Luis Fernando Suarez named uncapped 22-year-old Patrick Sequeira while veteran shot-stoppers Esteban Alvarado and Leonel Moreira were also included.

The 23-man list includes three Europe-based players and five who ply their trade in the United States. Twelve of the squad members play with Costa Rican clubs.

The Gold Cup will be played in the United States from July 10 to August 1.

The Ticos have been drawn in Group C alongside Jamaica, Suriname and another team that has yet to be defined.

Goalkeepers: Leonel Moreira (Alajuelense), Esteban Alvarado (Herediano), Patrick Sequeira (Real Union).

Defenders: Keysher Fuller (Herediano), Yael Lopez (Herediano), Giancarlo Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), Kendall Waston (Saprissa), Francisco Calvo (Chicago Fire), Oscar Duarte (Levante), Ronald Matarrita (FC Cincinnati), Bryan Oviedo (FC Copenhagen).

Media: David Guzman (Saprissa), Yeltsin Tejeda (Herediano), Allan Cruz (FC Cincinnati), Celso Borges (La Coruna), Alonso Martinez (Alajuelense), Bryan Ruiz (Alajuelense), Johan Venegas (Alajuelense), Jimmy Marin (Saprissa) ), Ariel Lassiter (Houston Dynamo).
