RABAT, July 2 (Xinhua) -- The COVID-19 epidemiological situation in Morocco is a source of concern as the number of new infections and active cases have been increasing during the past two weeks, Moroccan Head of Government Saad Dine El Otmani said on Friday.
El Otmani, speaking to the official television "Al oula," called on citizens and institutions to increase efforts and remain vigilant to contain the virus spread.
Morocco's COVID-19 tally rose to 532,994 on Friday as 844 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours.
The death toll rose to 9,307 with nine new fatalities during the last 24 hours, while 247 people are in intensive care units, according to a statement by the Ministry of Health.
The total number of recoveries from COVID-19 in Morocco increased to 518,641 after 540 new ones were added, the statement said.
The COVID-19 fatality rate in Morocco stands at 1.7 percent while the recovery rate is 97.3 percent.
Meanwhile, 10,059,937 people have received so far the first vaccine shot against COVID-19 in the country, and 9,159,495 people have received the second dose.
The North African country launched a nationwide vaccination campaign on Jan. 28 after the arrival of the first shipment of China's Sinopharm vaccines. Enditem
