BERLIN, July 6 (Xinhua) -- German shares opened slightly lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark DAX index losing 46.87 points, or 0.30 percent, dropping to 15,615.1 points.
The biggest winner among Germany's 30 largest listed companies was building materials company HeidelbergCement, increasing by 0.99 percent, followed by housing company Vonovia with 0.39 percent and pharmaceutical company Merck with 0.21 percent.
Shares of Volkswagen fell by 2.68 percent. The German carmaker was the biggest loser at the start of trading on Tuesday.
New orders in Germany's manufacturing sector in May declined by 3.7 percent compared with the previous month, but were still up 54.3 percent year on year, the country's Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) announced on Tuesday.
The yield on German ten-year bonds declined 0.0120 percentage point to minus 0.2210 percent, and the euro was trading almost unchanged at 1.1863 U.S. dollars, decreasing by 0.01 percent on Tuesday morning. Enditem
