ANKARA, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said the country is closely following the possible migrant influx from Afghanistan as Taliban advances its control in the war-torn country, semi-official Anadolu Agency reported Tuesday.

"There is no problem so far," Akar told a group of reporters after a cabinet meeting on Monday when asked about recent media reports that groups of Afghan migrants are entering Turkey through Iranian border.

"The Taliban is gradually expanding its sphere of influence. Not in official reports, but we see some traces of it. We are also following all the developments there," he added.

Local media reported an increase in Afghan migrants fleeing to Turkey in the past weeks after Taliban has increased its control in Afghanistan.

Turkey has been a transit point for migrants mostly from Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan that aim to cross into Europe. Enditem
