HONG KONG, July 15 (Xinhua) -- The COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread in Asia-Pacific countries as Indonesia reported its record daily cases and Thailand saw its record death toll, meanwhile new cases in Japan's capital city hit a six-month high .

India's COVID-19 tally rose to 30,987,880 as 41,806 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, according to the federal health ministry's latest data.

During the period, 581 deaths due to the pandemic since Wednesday morning took the total death toll to 411,989.

There are still 432,041 active COVID-19 cases in the country, as there was a rise of 2,095 cases during the past 24 hours.

Indonesia recorded 56,757 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, the highest daily spike, bringing the total tally to 2,726,803, the Health Ministry said.

The ministry also said that 982 new deaths were reported in the same period, bringing the death toll to 70,192.

Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the government is preparing for the worst-case scenario of 60,000 to 100,000 daily cases.

The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported 5,221 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 1,490,665.

The death toll climbed to 26,314 after 82 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said.

The Philippines has detected 19 Delta variant cases so far from samples taken from returning Filipinos who were immediately isolated upon arrival. Eighteen patients have recovered while one died, the DOH said.

Chairman of the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) of Pakistan Asad Umar said Thursday that the public should get vaccinated as soon as possible and comply with the COVID-19 guidelines identified by the government to avoid the devastation of the Delta variant.

According to the dashboard of the NCOC, a total of 2,545 people were tested positive of the disease on Wednesday, raising the country's tally of virus-infected people to 981,392.

A total of 22,689 people died of the disease including 47 patients who died over the last 24 hours, the NCOC said, adding that 2,619 patients are currently under treatment in 639 hospitals across the country out of which 2,336 are in critical condition.

Thailand reported a new daily record of 98 coronavirus deaths, raising the country's total fatalities to 3,032, according to the data released by the Public Health Ministry.

More than 95 percent of the deaths have been recorded since early April, which marks the start of Thailand's third wave and the country's worst coronavirus outbreak so far.

The Southeast Asian country also reported 9,186 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, taking the total infections to 372,215.

Tokyo reported 1,308 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, the highest in the capital city since Jan. 21, marking over 1,000 cases for the second straight day, with 3,347 new cases nationwide until 6 p.m. local time.

New infections in Tokyo averaged 882.1 per day in the week ahead of Thursday, compared with 663.6 a week earlier. The figure of severely ill COVID-19 patients under the metropolitan government's criteria increased to 57 from 54 the previous day.

The Japanese government is proposing to limit the movement of citizens during the global sporting events within the emergency state lasting until Aug. 22, which covers the duration of the Tokyo Games, as well as the summer vacation period including Japan's Bon holiday in mid August.

South Korea reported 1,600 more cases of the COVID-19 as of midnight Wednesday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 173,511.

Two more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 2,050. The total fatality rate stood at 1.18 percent. Enditem
