PHNOM PENH, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's death toll from COVID-19 surged to 1,025 on Thursday after 39 new fatalities were confirmed, the Ministry of Health said in a statement.

Thursday's deaths were also the highest-ever daily death toll, surpassing the previous highest daily record of 36 deaths on July 3.

The Southeast Asian nation logged 996 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the national total caseload to 64,611, the ministry said, adding that the new infections included 829 local cases and 167 imported cases.

The kingdom also saw 813 other patients recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 56,178, it added.

Cambodia launched an anti-COVID-19 inoculation drive on Feb 10, with China being the key vaccine supplier.

As of July 14, some 9.24 million vaccine doses had been administered, with 5.24 million people receiving their first dose and 4 million having completed the two-dose inoculation, the health ministry's secretary of state and spokeswoman Or Vandine said.

The kingdom is targeting to inoculate at least 10 million out of its 16 million population by November. Enditem
