UNITED NATIONS -- China supports the United Nations (UN) in continuing to play a leading role in advancing a political solution to the Libyan issue, said Dai Bing, China's deputy permanent representative to the UN, on Thursday.

"With the support of the international community and the joint efforts of all Libyan parties, the ceasefire has been maintained on the whole, and the parties are committed to ending the war and pushing Libya onto peace and reconstruction through the general elections to be held December this year," Dai told the Security Council ministerial-level briefing on the UN Support Mission in Libya and on the situation in the country. BEIJING -- China's Mars rover Zhurong has traveled 450 meters on the surface of the red planet, according to the Lunar Exploration and Space Program Center of the China National Space Administration on Thursday.

LOS ANGELES -- Public health authorities in Los Angeles County announced on Thursday that the most populous county in the United States will require all residents to wear masks in indoor public spaces, regardless of vaccination status, due to increased COVID-19 transmission.

LAGOS -- A university in Nigeria on Thursday directed its students to evacuate the campus after some were tested positive for COVID-19.
