LONDON -- Britain has agreed to pay France extra 55 million pounds (about 74.9 million U.S. dollars) to fund clampdown on illegal boats crossing the English Channel, the British Home Office announced.

In order to stem the rising number of migrants crossing the Channel, British Home Secretary Priti Patel agreed to pay the sum as part of a deal reached with French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin on Tuesday. (UK-France-Migrants)

JAKARTA -- Rescuers have found 24 bodies and kept searching for 31 other missing persons after 18 ships were hit by storm in waters off West Kalimantan province in central Indonesia days ago, the top rescuer of the province said on Wednesday.

The incident took place in Sambas district when two tug boats and fishing ships had already taken position near the coast, and some others were on their way to the territory in response to the warning from the weather agency of the possibility of extreme weather condition, said Yopi Haryadi, head of the provincial search and rescue office. CHICAGO -- Three people were injured in two separate shootings in downtown Milwaukee in the southeastern part of U.S. state of Wisconsin when tens of thousands of people gathered to watch and celebrate the Milwaukee Bucks' championship early Wednesday morning.

LUSAKA -- At least five people were arrested in Lusaka, the Zambian capital, for proposing violence on social media ahead of next month's general elections, the police said Wednesday.

The five were arrested in the early hours of Wednesday in one of the sprawling shanty compounds in the Zambian capital following a video clip they released that has gone viral on social media.
