U.S. stocks rise as comeback rally continues

NEW YORK, July 21 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks finished higher on Wednesday, as comeback rally continued on Wall Street after Monday's steep sell-off.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 286.01 points, or 0.83 percent, to 34,798.00. The S&P 500 rose 35.63 points, or 0.82 percent, to 4,358.69. The Nasdaq Composite Index jumped 133.08 points, or 0.92 percent, to 14,631.95.

Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with energy up 3.53 percent, outpacing the rest. Utilities slipped 1.1 percent, the worst-performing group.

Netflix shares ended more than 3 percent lower on Wednesday as the U.S. streaming video services company reported its second-quarter results after the closing bell on Tuesday, providing lighter-than-expected guidance for subscriber growth.

U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded mostly higher with nine of the top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on an upbeat note.

U.S. equities have experienced great volatility recently amid concerns over inflation and worries over a resurgence in COVID-19 infections. The Dow plunged more than 700 points on Monday, followed by a rebound of 550 points on Tuesday. Enditem
