HONG KONG, July 22 (Xinhua) -- The COVID-19 pandemic still wreaked havoc in Asia-Pacific countries as Indonesia's total tally surpassed 3 million cases while India recorded 41,383 new cases.

Indonesia's Health Ministry reported that the coronavirus cases across the archipelago rose by 49,509 within the past 24 hours to 3,033,339.

According to the ministry, the death toll added by 1,449 to 79,032. This has been the highest daily number of fatalities the country ever reported since the outbreak of the pandemic.

To date, more than 2.39 million have recovered from the disease.

The government recently decided to extend its restrictions on people's mobility, which is locally called PPKM, on the most populated island Java and the resort spot of Bali as well as 15 other cities and districts outside the two islands until July 25. Initially, the curbs were in place from July 3 to July 20.

India's total tally rose to 31,257,720 as 41,383 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, showed the federal health ministry's latest data.

Besides, as many as 507 deaths from the virus have been reported since Wednesday morning, taking the total death toll to 418,987.

There are still 409,394 active cases in the country with a rise of 2,224 cases during the past 24 hours.

A total of 30,429,339 people have been successfully cured and discharged from hospitals so far, out of which 38,652 were discharged during the past 24 hours.

Malaysia reported another 13,034 new COVID-19 infections, the Health Ministry said, bringing the national total to 964,918.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that 25 of the new cases are imported and 13,009 are local transmissions.

Another 134 more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 7,574.

The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported 5,828 new infections, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 1,530,266.

The death toll climbed to 26,891 after 17 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said.

The Philippines has detected 12 additional highly infectious Delta variant cases, the DOH said.

"With the detection of local cases with the Delta variant and other variants of concern, the public must strictly adhere to the minimum public health standards and continue to avoid enclosed spaces and mass gatherings," the DOH warned.

Pakistan has confirmed 2,158 new infections over the past 24 hours, the National Command and Operation Center said.

With the new patients, the country's number of overall confirmed cases rose to 998,609 amidst the fear of a fourth wave, said the NCOC, the department leading Pakistan's campaign against the pandemic.

A total of 22,928 people died of the disease nationwide, including 40 patients who died over the last 24 hours, the NCOC said, adding that 2,525 are in critical condition.

The country currently has 52,752 active cases while 922,929 others have recovered from the disease.

South Korea's daily cases broke records for two straight days amid the cluster infections in the Seoul metropolitan area, the health authorities said Thursday.

The country reported 1,842 more cases for the past 24 hours, raising the total number of infections to 184,103.

It marked the highest-ever daily caseload since the country's first case was found in January last year. It was slightly up from the previous high of 1,781 tallied in the prior day.

The daily caseload hovered above 1,000 for 16 straight days. The daily average caseload for the past week was 1,513.

Cambodia's total cases have risen to 70,419 after 811 fresh infections were reported across the country, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said in a statement.

The new infections included 511 local cases and 300 imported cases, the ministry said.

Twenty more fatalities had been confirmed, bringing the overall death toll to 1,188, it said, adding that 798 patients had recovered, taking the total number of recoveries to 62,577. Enditem
