BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

OTTAWA -- Canada reported an average of 448 new COVID-19 cases daily on July 16-22, up 13 percent over the previous week, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) said Friday.

As of Friday, Canada reported a cumulative total of 1,425,552 cases, including 26,535 deaths, according to CTV.

QUITO -- Ecuador reported on Friday 936 new COVID-19 infections and 18 more deaths in the last 24 hours, to reach a cumulative total of 480,720 cases and 21,446 deaths, the Ministry of Health said.

The province of Pichincha led in new infections in the last day with 398, with 372 registered in the capital Quito, epicenter of the pandemic in the South American country.

JERUSALEM -- Israel's Ministry of Health reported 1,150 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the tally in the country to 857,977.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Israel rose to 10,166, the highest since March 27, the ministry said.

HAVANA -- Cuba set on Friday a new record of COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours with 7,784, for a total of 316,383 cases, the Ministry of Public Health said.

It also announced 66 more deaths, bringing the death toll to 2,203.

TEHRAN -- Iran reported on Friday 21,814 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country's total infections to 3,645,654.

The pandemic has so far claimed 88,273 lives in Iran, up by 210 in the past 24 hours, the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education said in a briefing published on the ministry's official website.

ANKARA -- Turkey's daily COVID-19 cases jumped to 11,094 on Friday, the highest count since May.

"We should turn from flexibility to strict precautions and have our first doses of vaccine immediately," Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca tweeted on Friday.

RABAT -- Morocco's COVID-19 tally rose to 569,668 on Friday as 1,910 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours.

The country's death toll rose by 19 to 9,536, while 559 people are in intensive care units, said a statement by the Ministry of Health.

ACCRA -- Ghana's total number of confirmed cases surpassed 100,000 on Friday, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) confirmed.

According to the GHS, the West African country's total cases stood at 100,250 with 819 related deaths.

LONDON -- Britain has reported another 36,389 coronavirus cases in the latest 24-hour period, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 5,637,975, according to official figures released Friday.

The country also recorded another 64 coronavirus-related deaths. The total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Britain now stands at 129,044. These figures only include the deaths of people who died within 28 days of their first positive test. Enditem
