MUMBAI -- A total of 136 deaths have been reported in rain related incidents over the past 48 hours in India's western state of Maharashtra, the state government said Friday.

The incidents happened as heavy rain triggered landslides and flood water inundated low-lying areas, with most of the deaths reported from the coastal district of Raigad and the western district of Satara. (India-Floods-Toll)

KINSHASA -- At least 16 civilians, including six women, were killed in a road ambush Thursday made by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), local sources said Friday.

A road ambush by suspected ADF militants took place late Thursday on the Mayimoya-Chani-Chani road, north of the city of Oicha, located in the province of North Kivu, according to Beni's civil society. (DRC-Attack-ADF)

ADDIS ABABA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Africa reached 6,380,914 as of Friday afternoon, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.

BERLIN -- Last week's devastating floods have caused "destruction of historic proportions" to Germany's rail infrastructure, state rail operator Deutsche Bahn (DB) said here on Friday.
