RIO DE JANEIRO, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Palmeiras have reached a deal to sign defender Jorge from Monaco on a four-and-a-half year deal, the Brazilian club said on Friday.
The 25-year-old will replace Matias Vina as Palmeiras' first-choice left-back after the Uruguayan reportedly agreed to join Roma, a deal that is expected to be confirmed in the coming days.
"I'm very happy to join this great club and I'm looking forward to proving myself on the pitch by helping to win trophies," Jorge said in comments published on Palmeiras' official website.
Jorge, who has been capped once for Brazil's national team, made just 34 first-team appearances for Monaco following his 2017 transfer from Flamengo. He had subsequent injury-interrupted loan spells at Porto, Santos and Basel.
Palmeiras currently lead the Brazilian Serie A standings with 28 points from 12 matches, three points ahead of second-placed Atletico Mineiro. Enditem
