RIO DE JANEIRO, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Roni Moura and Adson Soares netted first-half goals to steer Corinthians to a 2-1 win at Cuiaba in Brazil's Serie A championship on Monday.

Roni opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark with a long-range shot following a counterattack and Adson doubled the lead 10 minutes later with a fierce left-footed drive after Jo's slide rule pass.

Rafael Elias gave the hosts a glimmer of hope by heading home with 29 minutes remaining but Corinthians defended resolutely to secure their fourth win of the campaign.

The Sao Paulo giants are now 10th in the 20-team standings with 17 points from 13 matches while Cuiaba are 15th, just a point clear of the relegation zone.

In Monday's only other Brazilian top flight fixture, an early strike from Matheus Peixoto gave Juventude a 1-0 home win over Chapecoense.

Juventude are now 13th while Chapecoense remain rooted to the bottom of the table after 13 matches. Enditem
